Gore running?

Seems that some friends of Al Gore are putting together a team for a new run:

One of his former campaign team said: “I was asked whether I would be available towards the end of the year if I am needed. They know he has not ruled out running and if he decides to jump in, he will have to move very fast.

“He hasn’t asked them to do this, but nor has he told them not to.”

A Gore run would sap support from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

The former aide, who has himself signed up with Sen Edwards, said: “The question is: where have all the Kerry people gone? The answer for most of them is nowhere. Now ask yourself why.”

Interesting. Seems a lot of folks are holding out for a Gore run. The question in my mind is whether he can jump in later this year and still be a viable candidate. I think he can.

  1. Please, no. We don’t need Gores, or Clintons, or Kerrys. The Democrats have a number of well-qualified candidates. We need to move forward.

  2. I knew this was coming. This could make the Democratic primary a bit more interesting, and might actually give any candidates who do not see too much support lost to Gore get right back into the race.

  3. It might make the Democratic Primary more interesting for a couple of months, but CR UVa is incorrect if he thinks this is going to help Bill Richardson or anyone else climb up the ladder. It will simply mean one more big name monopolizing the public’s limited attention and distracting from the back of the pack. That might narrow the gap in terms of percentage points between first and dead last, but it will in no way lead to better name ID or fundraising for the electoral stragglers.
