According to the Daily Press, two Republican candidates have announced their intentions to seek the seat being vacated by retiring delegate Melanie Rapp.
York County Supervisor Sheila Noll and longtime GOP activist Brenda Pogge announced their candidacies Tuesday.
The two, both of whom tout their conservative credentials, will square off in June. The article indicates that the 96th “typically leans heavily toward Republicans.”
The Richmond Times-Dispatch says that the selection of the Republican nominee will be made in a canvass.
Republicans will nominate a candidate in a canvass that will be held June 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at two voting places, Walsingham Academy in James City County and Coventry Elementary School in York County.
Democrat Troy Farlow has been working hard in the district. Also in the race is independent candidate Pamela Pouchot.
Sheila Noll is active in the Public Transportation Alliance of Hampton Roads and joined us in Richmond to lobby on Transit Day.
We could use another vote for transit in the House of Delegates.
Ironically that sounds like the sort of thing that would end up hurting her in her primary, or at best not helping. . .
