I attended Paula Miller’s re-election campaign kickoff yesterday afternoon. The event was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in the midst of the 87th House District that she has represented since December 2004.
Some 300 people attended this event. Sheriff Bob McCabe started us off and Commonwealth’s Attorney Jack Doyle had the honor of introducing our delegate, who was warmly received to a standing ovation. Delegate Miller spoke briefly about her legislative achievements, including:
- Additional real estate tax relief for the elderly and disabled
- Support of the constitutional amendment for the homestead exemption
- Introduction of a bill to require sex offenders to register email addresses
- Co-patron of a bill that bans 15-17 year olds from talking on cell phones when driving
In the next session, Delegate Miller wants to address such issues as pay day lending, gang violence, immigration and gun law loopholes.
Billed as a time for food, fun, and little politics, I think the event met its goals. It seemed that everyone had a wonderful time.
