American Idol Results 05/16/07

American Idol LogoLast night, the remaining three contestants – Jordin, Blake and Melinda – each sang three songs: one chosen by one of the three judges, one chosen by the producers, and one chosen by the contestant. Overall, I think Jordin performed the best last night, even though her rendition of “She Works Hard for The Money” was too fast. I didn’t like Melinda’s performance of the Tina Turner hit. Honestly, I just don’t like Melinda’s style. Blake was, well, Blake πŸ˜‰ He stayed true to form in all of his performances.

There was no way Jordin was going home tonight. The kid has demonstrated a versatility that just shouldn’t be someone that young πŸ™‚ (And yes, I’m jealous. I was good at that age, but I’ll admit that I wasn’t that good.)

So the decision on who was going home tonight really came down to Melinda or Blake. Watching the two of them standing there, it hit me that it would be Melinda who would get the ax. Not only because Blake has the support of the Vote for the Worst crowd, but because her singing is just too controlled, lacking emotion. She doesn’t grab you. She may be technically proficient but the American Idol should be more than that.

Not surprising, then, was the fact that Melinda was voted off.

Richmond should be really proud of last year’s Idol runnerup, Elliot Yamin. He looked good and sounded fantastic on the show.

Maroon 5 was horrible. Talk about pitchy! That little skinny guy with the little skinny voice almost made me turn down the volume. Is this what passes for talent these days?

I’m ready to pick the winner now πŸ™‚ I say it should be Jordin.

Oh – and for local Idol fans, the tour is coming to the Hampton Coliseum on September 18. Tickets go on sale Saturday.

  1. I expected either Jordin or Melinda to go home. I knew it would be too good to be true to see both Melinda and Jordin in the final. Can you imagine what kind of show that would have been?! The two of them had the best voices by far. I disagree that Melinda didn’t “grab” you. I just don’t think she appealed to the pop crowd out there. Her voice is so rich with passion and soul which most pop singers lack. Blake’s voice is OK I guess but I just want to know if it is really necessary to beat box on every single song?! In the end I think Melinda will come out like Jennifer Hudson. I am not saying she will end up with an Oscar but I think she will be just fine in the end.

  2. Oh and if you live in the central part of the state the American Idol tour will be making a stop at the JPJ Arena in Charlottesville on September 16th.
