Ooh! Republi-cat fight

On the Record logoToday’s On the Record with Joel Rubin provided an interesting “debate” between challenger Trish Stall and incumbent State Senator Marty Williams. For a little background on the setting, check out this blog posting over at PilotOnline. Yes, I was entertained 🙂 I’m not sure that the voters in the 1st district were, though. If there are Republicans who are dissatisfied with Williams, certainly they could have come up with a better challenger than Stall. Stall seems to be one of the so-called “flat earth” Republicans and there was a clear difference between the two candidates, even though Williams barely got a chance to get a word in edgewise. Actually, I would have liked this “debate” to have gone on for the entire show.

The second half of the show featured the two candidates in the 83rd district who are vying for the Republican nomination for the 83rd district, a seat left open by the retirement of Leo Wardrup. The differences between these two candidates is not nearly as stark and the abbreviated time frame really didn’t do anything to help those who will vote in the June 12th primary. Bearing Drift is hosting an online debate between the two this evening at 7pm, which will provide another opportunity to hear their views on the issues of the day.

If you missed this morning’s OTR, it will be available on the website on Monday.

Coming up on June 10th, OTR will host a debate between challenger Henry Light and incumbent Democratic delegate Johnny Joannou of the 79th district. The show airs at 10:30am on WVEC.
