Bay Oaks: A win for the citizens of Norfolk

The Virginia Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the citizens of Norfolk in the Bay Oaks Park case, according to this article.

The Bay Oaks Park Committee put together a petition drive on a parcel of property that the group would like to see retained as a park, asking that the vote be put to the people in the form of a referendum. The city fought tooth and nail – with our money – to keep this referendum from happening.

Regardless of whether or not you believe the land should be a park, all of Norfolk should rejoice in the fact that you will have an opportunity for your voice to be heard. A reasonable right to referendum in Norfolk has been delivered by the SCVA.

To the members of the court, a big thanks for looking out for us.

  1. The right choice was made to keep the area a park, but the norfolk city did nothing to help excecpt try to destory another community for the rich finnaly one for the poor and middle claas of are city one victory in a long war!

  2. And, a huge thanks to all the folks who worked at the Grass Roots level on this project, and everyone who signed the petition. Margaret Meade was right: “Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change t he world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

  3. Vivian,

Whatever! The Bay Oaks people have only succeeded in stopping progress for Ocean View. No one will ever use that park anyway! They are just a bunch of idiots with nothing else to do!

  4. Funny, isn’t it, that Richards lost the Governorship of Texas for her veto of a referrendum bill, and that that veto opened the door for George Bush?

  5. Congratulations and high fives to the Bay Oaks committee from Dolphin Liberty of Virginia. Once again, you’ve shown the world that you CAN fight City Hall and win!
