Rerras crab

When I first heard that Senator Nick Rerras had appropriated the blue crab of challenger Ralph Northam, I needed to see it for myself. Because I live the 6th, I get Rerras’ mailings all the time. However, since this dinner was being held on the Eastern Shore, I didn’t get the invitation. So I asked around and finally got my hands on a copy, albeit not in color. But others saw the original and were as outraged as I.

Northam for Senate logo

Rerras has represented the district since 1999 and I’ve lived here the whole time. I can’t ever remember him using the blue crab as a part of his logo.

Ralph, on the other hand, has used the logo since the beginning of his campaign and it is prominently displayed on his website. And, after all, Ralph is from the Eastern Shore. The blue crab choice as a logo for him is a natural one.

Rerras’ taking of the logo is inexcusable, even if it is not unexpected. After all, he’s claiming credit for Virginia being named the best managed state. Whatcha wanna bet Mark Warner & Tim Kaine might disagree with him on that?

  1. Wooooshhhh….

Yes, 2006 IS before 2007. That MAY be one of the points. MMW introduced in 2006 and 2007. Rerras introduced in 2007.

I don’t know the in’s and out’s of these candidates, but that’s what I take from this exchange.

What I also take away from it is that some people are trying to make the point that Rerras lacks original ideas – witness the recycling of a bill idea, the recycling of a logo idea. Is he an empty suit – I’ve really got no idea. But it is certainly easy to see why some people think that he may be.

And on the topic of the whole mental illness = demonic forces or the wrath of God –
I’m really not sure whether I should consider that “recycled” too since the idea has been around for thousands of years as an explanation of behavior that people were incapable of comprehending
    OR
a novel, new, and frightening idea by a thoroughly unenlightened, somewhat backward rube.

  2. Yep, but in the first year of the biennium, first reference constitutional amendments are continued to the next year since they have to pass twice with an election in between, and they get new bill numbers anyway. So, the 2006 bill numbers have nothing to do with anything, since none of the bills would ever get out of committee until 2007.

But, to answer your question, yes…in 2006 SJ79 would’ve taken precedence over SJ81. So, now your argument that Nick took a bill in 2007 that a Democrat offered in 2006 has NOW changed to Nick took a bill in 2006 that a Democrat offered in 2006?

Your “stealing” theory gets thinner by the hour.

  3. Because when one is attacked, he has three choices. Defend, ignore, and counter-attack.

If one ignores the charges, the attackers say, “Y’all notice how Brian has no response for the FemiNazi comment?”

If one counter-attacks, he is trying to “divert attention.”

If one defends himself, the repsonse is, “Wht is [he] playing defense?”

  4. Choice 4: Decide maybe they have a point, and change the behavior. (Gee, Nick, isn’t there a religion that would encourage this choice?)

Choice 5: Continue the behavior, and find, through the magic of the democratic process, that a more qualified individual has taken your place.

  5. It’s a crying shame Rerras has to undermine his own credibility with that whoe FemiNazi comment, otherwise he might stand a chance of winning this particular argument with the voters. But seeing as how the majority of voters are going to take the time to sift through all those bills to determine for themselves who’s telling the truth, they’re going to have to make a gut decision about who to trust.

My money wouldn’t be on Nick Rerras this year.

  6. Maybe fomer chair ed, had the right idea get out while you still can come nov. a serious wave or change is on the way all you GOP robots please do not stand the water, that wave will crush you!!
