VA NOW State Conference

VA NOW logoThe Virginia chapter of the National Organization for Women is holding its state conference this Saturday, June 23, in Charlottesville. Entitled “Understanding the F Word: Feminism Today,” registration starts at 8:30am. The conference runs from 9am to 5pm at the Observatory Hill Forum at the University of Virginia.

Guest speakers for the event include Mary Commander, the Norfolk attorney who blew the whistle on State Senator Nick Rerras’ (R-6th) use of the term “FemiNazi” during his interview of her. Also speaking will be Sandra Brandt, a Virginia Beach political consultant.

Workshops will be held on the new ERA and the mandatory HPV vaccine. For a bit of fun, there will be a silent auction.

Those arriving on Friday are invited to join president Marj Signer and the Charlottesville hostesses for complimentary drinks and treats. Those staying over to Sunday are invited to join VA NOW officers for a meeting.

Registration and other conference details can be found here.

  1. Will Nick be there? I read that he was invited. He may be afraid that the FemiNazis will gang up on him and hurt him…or worse, ask him to explain his philosophy.

  2. HMR,

Sandra Brandt is a political consultant who lives in VB, and is the chair of the 2nd CD for the DPV. She has managed the campaigns for candidates in many localities, and has a very successful record. She is widely recognized throughout the state as a very savvy political consultant. (At one event, I saw Mark Warner make a beeline to talk to Sandra.) So, yes, Sandra Brandt is more than qualified to participate in the NOW discussions.
