One of the ways that spammers get your email address is by crawling websites and looking for mailto links. Since changing my domain earlier this year and establishing a new email account, the amount of spam email I have received is almost nil. (I say “almost” because like an idiot, I have entered my email address when commenting on blogs. I no longer do that.)
A while back, someone pointed me to an email encoder program. There are quite a few of these on the market but not all of them work here at WordPress.com. The one I use is available here. I use it not only for my own email on this site, but also whenever I post someone else’s email address. It creates an encoded mailto link that works just fine in mail programs but one that the spambots can’t read.
Just my own little contribution to cutting down on spam.
Hi Vivian,
Thanks for linking to my email obfuscator. I’m glad it’s been of help.
Best!
Juan – thanks for writing it. It is truly a great piece of software 😉
