As expected, the Norfolk City Council voted last night to reverse the four zoning ordinances that would have allowed housing to be built on 21 acres of open space in East Ocean View.
The Bay Oaks Park Committee moved forward Monday with requesting that the public vote on the issue be scheduled. The maneuver was basically a legal one, just in case the council did not act.
Unclear at this point is whether the vote will occur. I don’t have a copy of the petition and honestly, I was a bit busy in 2005 to pay much attention to the wording of them. As the result, I’m not sure if the petitions just covered a vote on rescinding the rezoning or if they actually covered a vote that the space be kept as a park. If the former, no vote is necessary, in light of council’s actions. If the latter, I’d say we should have the vote.
Did you mean forced to give it back by the community, now maybe we can put somes gardens in the area?
