Eight Democratic presidential hopefuls will take the stage tonight at Howard University, one of the country’s oldest historically black universities, in DC. The forum will be broadcast on PBS. More on the forum, including a pre-forum poll, can be found here . The program will be broadcast locally on WHRO, channel 15, at 9pm.
In case you are wondering about the Covenant With Black America, let me just say that I don’t know anything about it other than what is available on the website. When I tried to download the THE COVENANT In Action Summary and The Covenant Curriculum Manual and Study Guide, I was directed to this page.
Wonder how many people stopped cold – as I did – when confronted with the list of “required fields” on that form?

I guess it’s good that CWBA is serious about expanding their organization’s database, but I’m more than a little put off that “race” is a required field. If I started a page called “Covenant with White America” and made anyone who wanted to access information on the site tell me what race they are, the FBI would start investigating me.

anon – the funny thing is that these are posters here at WordPress. I guess being a “Blog of the Minute” (which I was earlier today) accounts for these posts.
Yeah, the race thing is kind a strange requirement, and then there’s the options:
African American
White
ect.
Why can’t they ever say black? They just said white without any trouble. What’s wrong with black? What if you are an Australian Aborigine? Do you then have to sign up with the “Others” club? All us white people get a category of our own, and, other than Goths and Counterstrike addicts, most of us aren’t even really that white!
I’m all for political correctness, but this is something I’m not sure I will ever understand. Black is my favorite color. Nice chunk of my heroes are black and call themselves black. People give that whole black is the color of evil crap, but for me it’s the color of lots of my favorite things, like my coffee, the beer I’m drinking (sorry Whackette, think I just broke another of your commandments. Bad me!), a lot of my clothes and those worn by Johnny Cash, one of my favorite music formats and a really good AC/DC album.
Black is beautiful yo.

Just tuned into the debate (I’m generally trying to avoid all things 2008), and am surprised to wish that I’d tuned in earlier. I’m *not* a fan of Tavis Smiley, but he seems to be doing a very good job.
Smiley is doing a great job as moderator – much better than Wolf did in the earlier ones.

Same boat though. Have been sick of the debates, but find that after a nice break from it all, this one is quite nice. Gavel is funny. He’s playing the grumpy old man waving his stick at the others like they’re a bunch of kids on his lawn. Reminds me of the old Dana Carvey scetches with the round table.
