While attention has been focused on the 2008 presidential race, let’s not forget that the House of Representatives will also be up for grabs. According to TPM Cafe, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee plans to target certain Republicans over the July 4th break, with a series of radio ads surrounding their voting records on veterans issues.
In addition to the radio ads for select races, certain other Republican candidates will be the target of emails, telephone calls and web videos. Topping the list for this is 2nd District Congresswoman Thelma Drake.
While I’m glad the DCCC is targeting races this early, I have to wonder about the effectiveness of such, given the timing. Yes, Congress will be on break next week. But so will a lot of folks – including me.
UPDATE: Here’s the Drake video (h/t RK)
Ah, yes. The best way to make voters happy. Negative phone calls during the Independence Day holiday.
The timing looks good to me – the people of this country should count – not oil companies and $$$$’s.
Kirwin – I just answered a poll yesterday for Hank Giffin that was testing negatives on Paula Miller. The Republicans are just as guilty.
Are you saying that this DCCC ad has to do with the election or defeat of a candidate?
Nope, it’s an issue ad reviewing the record of the incumbent. See your Supreme Court (yes, Brian, I do mean your Supreme Court).
Whew….wouldn’t want to get into another “democrats are hypocrites” discussion. Those are so repetitive.
And “Democrats are hypocrites” arguments being voiced by Republicans are . . . well, HYPOCRITICAL. Good idea — DON’T get in that discussion. You’ll lose.
Yeah, like it was SOOOO effective when Kellam dragged Steny Hoyer down here last year to do the same thing misrepresenting votes, as if a vote to recommit the other parties budget means you are “against” everything in that budget.
By that definition, every Democrat who votes against a Republican budget is against absolutely everything in that budget? Is that the silly game you want to play?
GO ahead…do telemarketing. It works so well in this district.
Please . . . PLEASE . . . no Republican whining about party members misrepresenting voting records (think Bush with Kilgore, Allen — that certainly paid off nicely, didn’t it??) And if appearances and telemarketing aren’t effective, why do R’s continue to do it election after election?? For that matter, if it doesn’t work, why did Thelma and the R’s whine and scream so much when MoveOn.org ran ads and made phone calls?
More of the same ol’, same ol’ from the Republican Hypocrisy Merry-Go-Round.
Well at least we know why voters are disgusted by politics and politicians of both major parties. I wonder if anyone other than party operatives will even show up at the polls by the time that all of this is over. No wonder it is hard to find good candidates.
Brian, in light of the completely inadequate facilities and care found at Walter Reed earlier this year, do you really think democrats are misrepresenting the issue by arguing that we should be doing more for our wounded soldiers?
I hate these people (spammers).
