Democratic picnic: fun on a Saturday afternoon

I headed out to Chesapeake earlier today for the Democrats 2007 All-American Family Picnic. I went to get a chance to meet Mick Meyer, the candidate in the 78th House district. I got a chance to meet some of Chesapeake’s fine Democrats and hang out with some of the usual suspects, including Susan Mariner.

I got to chat with Councilman Cliff Hayes, who was the subject of recent news coverage as he abandoned the Republican Party and became a Democrat. I discovered that he was returning to the Democratic Party, after having been lured away in 2001. I’m glad to welcome a young man such as him back to the fold. Keep your eye on this guy – he’s going places πŸ™‚

Mick Meyer is going to do fine as a candidate. He’s just getting started with his campaign and understands he’s got a lot of work ahead of him. He said his reason for running was because he believes incumbent Republican delegate John Cosgrove is out of step with the district.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, cupcakes and politics. What a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon πŸ˜‰

UPDATE: Although this was a Democratic affair, there was one Republican there: Jim Hoeft of Bearing Drift. He seemed to have a good time, too.

We’re gonna get you, Jim. You just wait πŸ™‚ Come to the light!
