Sunday afternoon stuff (on Monday morning)

Yesterday, I attended Steve Heretick’s event with Governor Tim Kaine. Former State Senator Willard Moody acted as the MC, introducing Heretick as well as the Governor. Both spoke briefly, with Heretick offering his vision for the 13th Senate district and the Governor speaking about how electing Heretick will help continue to move Virginia forward.

Heretick, Kaine, MoodyIt was a good turnout, with lots of faces that I’ve not seen before at events like this. I always like to see new faces because it tells me that more people are getting involved. Also, there were a number of elected officials there from Portsmouth and the surrounding cities, including Delegates Lionell Spruill, Johnny Joannou and Bill Barlow, Portsmouth Clerk of Court Cynthia Morrison, Portsmouth Commissioner of the Revenue Frankie Edmonson, and two Portsmouth council members (whose names escape me right this minute).

Since I see the Governor often enough, I kept my remarks to him quite brief, only mentioning the plight of Arthur Whitfield and imploring him to try to expedite the pardon. He said he would look into it.

====================

Coming home, I drove through my neighborhood only to run into Hank Giffin out knocking doors. (I try to drive through ever so often to see the yard signs. Saw a Ralph Northam sign today!) We spoke briefly and he said the campaign is going well, and is, of course, an uphill battle. (I’m paraphrasing here.) After getting home, my Paula-Miller.gifdoorbell rang and it was my neighbor across the street. I thought it might be Hank but she said he had already been down our end. As it turns out, she was coming over to ask if it would damage our friendship if she put a Hank Giffin sign in her yard. I tried to convince her otherwise – after all, she supported Paula Miller in 2005 – but to no avail. The only saving grace was that she said that she Ralph Northamwould not be supporting Nick Rerras and would be supporting Northam. Can’t win them all 😦

Speaking of Northam, my neighbor down the street stopped me the other day to say that he’d be voting for another Democrat. (He likes to think that he’s a Republican.) He is a VMI grad and saw that Northam is, too, so he decided to vote for him.

  1. Hmm, so you ran into Hank Giffin knocking on doors and your neighbor is supporting him, but you link to Miller’s website and not Hank’s? It’s so gratifying to see how partisan this blog has become.

  2. Funny – you write a whole post bashing Miller and never link to her website. Wow – how partisan is that?

    You know, I didn’t even have to mention Hank. I could have ignored the fact that I ran into him. Not only did I report it, but I did so without bashing him.

    How about trying that, Brian?

    Oh – I forgot. You don’t know how to be anything other than snarky. Worked out real well for you in the Marty Williams campaign, didn’t it?

  3. Vivian, I’ve warned you before — Brian is what happens when you let the kids at the card table try and hang with the grown-ups. It IS kinda cute when you see little guys like him pee on themselves and kick their feet in a tantrum.

    But then, losing BIG-TIME with Williams, not to mention Schmidt against Purkey — ALONG with that juvenile stunt with the fake news release that almost got him nailed by the VB Commonwealth’s Attorney — SHOULD make him grow up and learn something. But I guess not — instead of learning and doing something useful, he hangs around like a little puppy wanting to yip and be a nuisance to thoughtful people who have a life.

    Hard to believe this guy is almost 40 . . .

  4. I not seen any signs around northside or ocean view, when i was putting flags out on the 4 july, when will the doctor and miller have signs out in force? and for this other guy who talks like he knows all, let him talk he only looks more foolish everyday actions speak louder than words, VIP you should come to the northside civic league somtime i am sure everyone would enjoy your insight.
