Just a quickie report on the opening evening of Blogs United in Hampton Roads. The kiddies from The Daily Whackjob invited me to join them for dinner so we were supposed to meet up at 5pm at a restaurant on this side of the water. Ha! Those folks from NoVA have nothing on us when it comes to tunnel traffic on a Friday afternoon. Needless to say, they didn’t make it until about 5:30. Fortunately, the drink special at the bar was Georgia Peach martinis π
Now a couple of the Whackers are folks I’ve met before – Whackette and Phreindlyjamie – but the rest I hadn’t. Even so, as a group of kiddies in black t-shirts descended upon the bar, I figured it had to be them π I actually recognized Whackjob by his voice – we have talked on the phone. I had no idea that Mad Hatter and Bunky were so young! And then, tagging along wearing a white T-shirt was Republitarian.
The seven of us had dinner and then headed over to the Marriot for the reception. I was supposed to be following Whackjob but he obviously has no idea how to drive when someone is following. First, the speed at which he was traveling would have, no doubt, subjected him to the new CRFs had he been caught. Let’s just say his wallet would have been, oh, $3,000 lighter π But the worst thing? He crosses over a couple of lanes of traffic to take an exit! Had I followed, I wouldn’t be here to write tonight.
Anyway – we managed to get there safely (PJ and Republitarian rode over with me) and joined up with some of the others for a minute before heading upstairs to a hospitality suite. After a glass of champagne, I figured it was time to head out. After all, we’ve got a full day tomorrow.
It was great meeting you. It seemed like you had a smile the whole time. See ya round the blogosphere.
