Nothing is more difficult than having had a close relationship with someone and having something come up that causes a split. Such is the case with Arlington Commissioner of the Revenue Ingrid Morroy and Treasurer Frank O’Leary. From a recent article:
They were elected in 2003, and were slated to run together this year, as the “fair tax team.”

A door between the two offices on the second floor of the county government headquarters, which had been closed and locked during the Whiting years, was reopened.

It remains open
I don’t know that a relationship torn apart can ever be completely mended. It certainly can never be what it was before. The only hope is that somehow, a new relationship emerges that allows the parties to move forward.
I hope that the door is not the only thing that remains open.
