A couple of weeks ago, I got a card from the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, asking for a donation. I put it on the corner of my desk, where it immediately got buried underneath a pile of papers. Yesterday, someone told me that they had heard on the news that the Foodbank really needs our help. Here’s the story from the WVEC website.
Smith says purchasing the amount of canned food they need for August would wipe out their budget for the rest of the year
When I was growing up, organizations like the Foodbank didn’t exist. So many of us who were poor relied on the generosity of neighbors and friends. The Foodbank expects to feed over 200,000 people this year. That requires a lot of neighbors and friends.
I found that card this morning and promptly wrote a check. I hope you will consider donating as well. If you are local, consider dropping off some food at one of these locations. And if you have some free time, the Foodbank could use it.
Hi Vivian. I just went to a conference the other week to learn a bit more about blogging and various other internet aspects of charities and online communication. Not being of the generation X (or Y, or XY for that matter) age group, my knowledge was and is quite limited. Through this session, I learned at least how to see what was out there and what those in our community we feeling and talking about
I want to personally thank you for being a champion for the Foodbank. We work so hard to fill a gap in our community, and it is individuals like you who help to accomplish that task.
Also, I want to thank you for allowing me to have my first blog experience. Sad but true. I’m sure that I will continue to out and about as soon as I get my “blog legs” on surer footing.
Sincerely,
Marianne Smith
