According to the Virginian-Pilot, NFL quarterback and Newport News native Michael Vick has decided to accept a plea deal.
Vick is going to enter a guilty plea to the felony conspiracy charge next Monday at 10:30 a.m., said Lawrence Woodward, one of Vick’s defense attorneys.
The details of the deal have not been disclosed. Last week, it was thought that the deal included 1 year of jail time. Listening to the announcers during last night’s preseason game, the thought was that Vick is likey out for at least two seasons – the year in jail plus at least a one year suspension. They said that they doubted that the league would allow him to serve his suspension concurrent with his jail time. If that is the case, Vick would be 29 when he returns, not too old to play, but certainly a step or two slower.
Of course, there is always the possibility that Vick will be banned for life. I don’t see that happening, though. A player with Vick’s skills, even diminished, will be welcome somewhere in the league.
In other Vick news, he was fined $25 for not wearing a seat belt.

He won’t play in the NFL again. CFL maybe, but NFL never. It’s turning into a horrible year for us here in Blacksburg, but at least this dog torturer is more associated with the Falcons these days.
David Robinson missed two seasons (granted, at the beginning of his career) for the Navy. Vick could play again.
Yes, it might be in the CFL.
Steroids and violence will remain on the ESPN menu however.
Too profitable.
The CFL is trying to clean up its image these days. I don’t know if there is a place for Vick there either, depending on the deal. Remember there isn’t a plea yet, and the NFL may still forgive him.
There is no doubt he would be a great fit in a league with rules that reward a creative, running quarterback. However, as much as we Canadians may seem like pushovers on the criminal justice side of things, a guy who admits to breeding dogs for fighting isn’t going to be welcome up here by fans of a great league like the CFL.
HMR- You should not mention David Robinson in the same sentance or comparison with Michael Vick. There is no comparison at all. Roger Staubuck, to take us back, completed his full 5 year commitment to the Navy, then played a full and wonderful career (and I am a life long Redskin fan, so praising Roger is no easy feat). Put that aside, with Dave, he was a wonderful player, and we all knew he could do his duty and head to professional sports with no problems. How, in any way, is that related to doing prison time for horrible crimes? Good lord. It just boggles the mind that you could even suggest the connection. Was Napoleum McCallum anything like vick!? Hell no!
And I’m a huge Vick fan from Tech. And I am so utterly dissapointed in Michael. I’m also dissapointed in Marcus. But both of those brothers cannot hold a candle to Dave Robinson, or Napolean, or Roger (who did I forget?). May Vick end his days in arena football (apologies to fans of that sport) or in Vegas grubbing for autographs like pete rose.
Maybe Vick will commit a double homicide soon?
Like other steroided out college stars did:
OJ Simpson of USC (ex-wife and a waiter)
Mariet Timothy Ford of California (pregrant wife & son)
Virginia Tech has a terrific steroid doping program–no doubt.
