Since you’re focused on computers right now, Vivian, I’ll stick to that for a second. Is there any way you can give commenters a preview of what they’re posting, as they can at RK or Kos? I always feel a bit nervous inserting links in comments here, even though I know it’s just ordinary HTML.
I just bought a new computer yesterday as well! *cheesy high five* My last blog post was devoted to some questions I have about it if I may abuse your open thread. 😉
So Vivian, what kind of computer did you get? Are you in the dreaded clutches of the Vista? I looked at getting a new PC, but everything now runs Vista, and besides voiding the warranty, the guy at Best Buy told me I’d have to remove some of the guts which are hardwired for vista in order to run Windows XP.
Cory, I don’t know you, but I care enough to tell you this: don’t ever ever listen to anything anyone working for Best Buy has to say about computers. Ever. 🙂
Good point. Can’t say if the gutting bit was true, but all their computers DID only run Vista as was the case at other places I shopped and it really would void the warranty removing it. So it’s Mac for me! Oh darn, a virus proof computer. How will I survive? 🙂
Ha. Well, welcome to the fold, but beware the koolaid. Really.
Hey y’all. Randy – I have no control over the preview thing – it’s not an option here at WordPress.com although I know lots of folks have asked for it. I’ll send another support request for it again.
Cory – I bought a Dell Dimension 9200 with a Core 2 duo processor running at 2.13 gHz, 2 gig ram, 160 gig hd, and a bunch of other goodies. Oh yeah – and a 20′” widescreen digital monitor 🙂
No Vista for me. I am not ready nor is some of the software that I use.
Interestingly enough, PCmover did a fine job on all but QuickBooks Accountants Edition (which I fairly easily fixed) and Peachtree Accountants Edition (which I’m still working on fixing 😦
And I uninstalled Google Toolbar but the EULA keeps popping up every time I reboot. Gotta figure out how to get rid of that.
@ Vivian:
Very nice. Actually it was laptops that posed the Vista problem for me. UVA advisers said I needed one. Seeing as I’m not pursuing higher maths or engineering, I decided I’d rather have something at home and that flat screen setup gives me a LOT of desk space.
What is it with QuickBooks and Peachtree? My mom is an accountant and at least twice a year I’ll hear her complain about some compatibility problem or another.
@ MB:
Worry not. I am a Gatorade man.
The folks at QB & PT are so worried that somebody is going to steal their software that they make it difficult to use. I finally have PT running, but it took me all afternoon.
Right now, I’m about 95% done. Just have to finish syncing my Outlook stuff. Oh – and have to get rid of the stupid EULA from Google Toolbar that pops up every time I restart the computer even though I removed the software.
Vivian,
You may need to do some surgery to get rid of that Google bar.
If you are interested, let me know, and I will write something up for you.
Just off the phone with Dell Support – got rid of the EULA. And yes, it took a bit of surgery 😦
Almost there on the email sync.
I just got rid of the Mirar toolbar in Internet Explorer!! However, now Internet Explorer doesn’t work. I needed to upgrade it anyway.
