Heretick event with Warner

Steve Heretick logoThe weather around here was awful Sunday, so I didn’t relish the thought of driving over an hour to Suffolk for a fundraiser for Steve Heretick, Democratic candidate in the 13th Senate district. However, I had said that I would attend so I headed out.

As it turns out, the weather was a bit worse than I thought, particularly in other parts of the state. As the result, former governor Mark Warner was unable to attend the event. His plane couldn’t land at the airport, so he started driving down. Even that was impossible – he ran into all kinds of traffic. (I hope he wasn’t surprised.) He ended up participating via telephone and promised to make it up to Heretick later.

Bobby Scott and Steve HeretickA fair number of folks did brave the weather (and the winding, unlit roads) to gather for this event at a beautiful facility in rural Suffolk. Among those who made it were Congressman Bobby Scott, Delegate Lionell Spruill and several members of the Portsmouth City Council, of which Heretick is now a member.

Scott spoke briefly about the importance of this race and the importance of taking back the General Assembly. Heretick pointed out that the 13th Senate district has been represented for 16 years by an “absentee landlord.” Heretick mentioned that half of the voters in the district don’t even know who Fred Quayle is! That is an astonishing statistic for someone who has been in office for so long. Heretick promises that he will not be an absentee landlord and will work hard to represent the district.

I got a chance to chat with Heretick about the race and with his field staff. It is not an impossibility that Hampton Roads will deliver three new Democratic Senators in the fall 😉 Of course, he still needs your help. Contribute and volunteer today!

The food was good and the politics was interesting. A good time was had by all.
