I attended Monday night’s fundraiser for Ralph Northam, the Democratic challenger in the 6th Senate district. The headliner for the event was former governor Mark Warner. Also in attendance was Senator Creigh Deeds, Delegate Brian Moran and candidates from throughout Hampton Roads.
Deeds talked about how good things are looking for the takeover of the Senate this year. He counts a win by Northam among the pickups. He reiterated that we need four seats – and anticipates that we will have a cushion 🙂
Moran gave a brief update on the status of the House campaigns. He urged to crowd to support the House candidates as well, introducing those in attendance.
Governor Warner got the chance to tell his Nextel “cha ching” joke when the cell phone of one of the attendees went off at the beginning of his speech. He then got serious about how important it is to elect Democratic candidates.
Speaking last was the candidate himself. Northam demonstrated the confidence of a winner, as he talked about his campaign and how well things are going. The voters’ response to him has been tremendous.
Looks like we are going to have a fine new Senator from the 6th district 😉 As always, though, remember that he can’t do this alone. Volunteer and contribute today!

Ralph needs to get some signs up on the Eastern Shore. I saw only 3 on the entire 13 hwy last week. All Rerras signs. A lot of them.
Just trying to help here.
Signs are going up this week, including the big ones. Northam is doing VERY well on the Eastern Shore.
I phone banked for Northam a few weeks ago and the numbers I called happened to be on the Easterrn Shore. There were many positive responses and he seems to have a great base on the shore.
The Northam camp has phone banking every Wed & Thurs night at their office in Ocean View. If everyone could put in a night or two we can all help out our next state Senator!!

Signs will start winning elections when they get up and walk to the polls in November. From Maria’s story, it sounds like Northam’s campaign is doing the right thing by reaching out and campaigning to actual voters in the district, rather than just throwing up a bunch of signs along the highway.
He should get some signs out there because it doesn’t hurt, but as a Virginian, I’m really glad to hear there’s a politician who wants to focus on the voters who live in his district, rather than a 70 mile stretch of asphalt.
Thanks for the info on the signs. I myself once saw a sign get up and walk so don’t give me no grief.
Anyway I am going up on the eastern shore tomorrow and will report back.
Just trying to help here folks.
I want Northam to win.
