The Virginia Education Association has endorsed Joe Bouchard for delegate in the 83rd House district. From the press release:
“I am honored to have the support of teachers from Virginia Beach and all across Virginia in this race,” Bouchard said. “I am committed to making sure that the General Assembly fully funds the Standards of Quality, and provide sufficient funding to pay Virginia’s teachers above the national average. We need to do all that we can to make sure our children are well prepared for the complex, highly competitive world they will enter upon graduating from High School.”
“As VEA President and VEA-PAC chair, I have worked hard to ensure that we examine voting records and questionnaires and that we thoughtfully interview candidates. We have done the necessary homework to choose friends of education in a party blind and issue driven manner. We have identified friends who are Democrats, Independents, and Republicans. This is why we are recommending Joseph Bouchard in the 83rd House District. We need more friends of public education in the House,” said Princess Moss, President of the Virginia Education Association.
Congratulations, Joe!
Monday night, Bouchard participated in a candidates’ forum at the Thoroughgood Civic League with opponent Chris Stolle. The Virginian Pilot was there and this article appeared in today’s paper. At the forum, the differences between the candidates emerged, as Bouchard called for an overhaul of the transportation package while Stolle wants to tinker with it. Bouchard also supports light rail into Virginia Beach, something that Stolle does not. Norfolk is building its part of the light rail line, but Virginia Beach has steadfastly rejected it, although not for the reasons Stolle mentioned.
The race in this open seat is shaping up nicely, but as always, the campaign could use more help. Volunteer and contribute today.
