Short notice, I know. More on the flip.

From the email I received:

It is time for all of us to be involved in some way. Many will say that they can not go to Louisiana for many reasons. Ok….but you can support in several ways. Let me put it bluntly: get off your “butts” and take some responsibility for making a difference. This is about protesting a prejudiced legal system that is making an example out of six young men and denying them simple justice we are all entitled to have. For a change, we must stand collectively, so that those in denial of the race issue in this country can no longer turn their heads. We must confront this abuse of power and not sit in complacency.

First, put this on your calendar with an asterisk: On next Thursday, September 20th — dress in black to show support of the Jena Six. (Black suit, black shirt, black dress….whatever)

Second, there is at least five things you can do in lieu of traveling to Louisiana:

  1. You can forward this email to at least ten other people and ask then to do the same (OK, so you can’t forward a blog post but you certainly can let others know!)
  2. You can write the Gov. of Louisiana
  3. You can take the time to obtain the number of CNN, FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC and ask them why this has not generated at least the national coverage it deserves. If it got just half the coverage of Parris Hilton, that would be great.
  4. Contact your local, state, and national political representatives and ask them to make a statement. (Let them show where they stand)
  5. Call your local media outlets and ask them to cover the story. Note: (Hint) You’d be surprised what several thousand calls would do to get attention. With just a little effort, we could flood the phone, fax and network servers just for starters.

Do what you can to help out the Jena 6. I know I will.

  1. In life at one point or another we have all suffered. Whether it be because of race, gender, religion, people have been abused since the beginning of time. Most people grow up and realize that after a certain age they must take full responsibility for their actions. Unfortunately a large percentage of the young black male community refuses to accept these responsibilities and have decided that their ancestors suffering is owed to them. I find it counter productive and insulting to the black community to have Rev Jackson constantly talking about all the young blacks wrongly incarcerated throughout the Untied States. Perhaps if Rev Jackson would focus on “why” there are so many young black men rightly incarcerated, some issues could be resolved within the black community. Like all other races, religions, genders there comes a time when you must move forward and stop the game. There are people that have suffered more and have moved forward without excuse or blame. Young black women deserve more than 50% of the young male population fathering several children with several women, having criminal records or being incarcerated. I think that’s a cause worth rallying for.

  2. All of you trying to convince anyone that Jackson, Sharpton, or any of the other race pimps were justified in the “rally” that happened yesterday, consisting of nowhere near 15,000 people, was justified, are talking to a brick wall. Jaquan (Michael), I agree with you 90%, but you need to realize you’re wasting your time. These people have been brainwashed to such an extent, they will die before believing otherwise. To ALT, for your comment, my history, I know MY history, I have no whip scars on my back, so I’m not going to look at the white man, or anyone else for that matter, with any prejudice. Why don’t you really check into the noose… more people of a different race were hung by the noose, than any “african american” ever was. That was the punishment for crime since the begining of this country. Again, was the whole “noose” thing extremely immature and uncalled for…yes. Fortunately, we no longer live in those times, so you yourself should get out of the past (as well as the KIDS who pulled this prank.) And yes, I’m lying about being black…what gave it away? Maybe the fact that you couldn’t understand the big words, that I’m not saying :
    Why you ain’t,
    Where you is,
    What he drive,
    Where he stay,
    Where he work,
    Who you be… ?
My GREAT ancestors, as well as my wife’s, did come from Africa. And that last statement is truly not intended for all people of color, but don’t accuse me of not being who I am because I don’t think and act how you do. To “Lady M”, if you’re worried about my spelling (which you should check yours by way ( it’s writes/not rights), than you need to quit voicing your opinion. In closing: Was the whole “noose” thing extremely stupid and uncalled for…definitely, but (vjp, excuse the all caps) NOT A CRIME; attempted murder…also not called for; and most importantly, quit justifying the “school yard tustle” (as the pimp hustler Sharpton keeps referring to it), it was a senseless ATTACK, and punishable by law.

  3. Durk – you appropriately used all caps: for emphasis. I have no problem with that. It is when an entire post is put in caps that it is inappropriate. Contrary to what other new visitors have posted here, I’ve always asked people to not post in all caps.
