CNN said that one of the noose hangers testified at the trial against Mychal Bell. I guess he just happened to be hanging around with the victim? Why was this boy even still in school at all?
Hanging a noose from a tree is a death threat. It should have been treated as such.
Phyllis………….i dont know where you got your information but you are so so so off base……..get your facts straight before you start preraching
“It was widely reported that Bell, now 17, was an honor student with no prior criminal record. Although he had a “high grade-point average” (ed. notice how ABC News doesn’t say honor study, and uses ambiguous language), he was, in fact, on probation for at least two counts of battery and a count of criminal damage to property.” – ABC News
“Noose Incident” was months before the beating, and completely unrelated.
“The so-called “white tree” at Jena High, often reported to be the domain of only white students, was nothing of the sort, according to teachers and school administrators; students of all races, they say, congregated under it at one time or another.
Two nooses not three were found dangling from the tree. Beyond being offensive to blacks, the nooses were cut down because black and white students “were playing with them, pulling on them, jump-swinging from them, and putting their heads through them,” according to a black teacher who witnessed the scene.
There was no connection between the September noose incident and December attack, according to Donald Washington, an attorney for the U.S. Justice Department in western Louisiana, who investigated claims that these events might be race-related hate crimes.
The three youths accused of hanging the nooses were not suspended for just three days they were isolated at an alternative school for about a month, and then given an in-school suspension for two weeks.” – ABC News
The Jury was all white, because several African Americans summoned to jury duty never showed up.
“The six-member jury that convicted Bell was, indeed, all white. However, only one in 10 people in LaSalle Parish is African American, and though black residents were selected randomly by computer and summoned for jury selection, none showed up.” – ABC News
My son moved into a home in Dearborn Heights his family can under attack the next morning this police created a charge and arrested my son there big concern was why is he in this house in this city he needs a protest march not the Jena 6′.
Ms. Paige,
Where is the outrage for the white teen attacked in the Hampton area by the group of black teens this past week. The video has been shown on the news but only covered one time. It shows repeated blows by six or seven black males to the head of the victim, resulting in a concussion. Blows to the head, contrary to what some of your writers believe are serious. Any blow to the head can be more serious then first believed. What shocks me the most but to be very honest does not surprise me, the reporters have stated that the law enforcement are not going to treat this as a hate crime. Ms. Paige, what else could it be. Just a group of “kids” having a disagreement, do you really in your heart believe that. If it were a black attacked and beat by six or seven whites, or a homosexual beat by a group would it not be treated as a hate crime. You know as well as I, that it would. Further, Sharpton / Jackson would have been down here asking for federal government investigation and a march on something. This needs to be stopped, people this is not a race issue. It is a possible loss of an entire generation. All of us need to quit using the race card. If some one kills some one guess what its murder, if some one beats some one its an assault, if some one burns some one out of thier home its arson. The punishment should fit the crime no matter of the persons race or finacial status.
