I am very upset with the actions being taken against the six young men in Jena this sort of behavior is just totally injustice and inhuman to all races of mankind. Just a reminder that God is not dead and we will all be judge one day. My thoughts are also that the district attorney;the public defender that represented Mychal Bell, and the judge should be disbarred immediately.
this is the crazy mess i have ever heard
There is something wrong with this picture i thought this mess was over years ago .People wake up this is 2007 black people are beyond this craziness , we dont have a problem with white people , so what is there problem with us , face it we are not going anywere !!! SO GET OVER IT
Thanks for the suggestion—I’m going to scour my wardrobe (and then most likely a store) from something black to wear.
Freedom for all is tarnished until all are truly free.
A high school yard fight should never, never have come to this. The students who committed the hate crime of hanging the noose in the tree should have been dealt with swiftly and harshly.
I can’t believe that in 2007, even in Louisiana (and especially there after what both white and black went through with Katrina), that this kind of grossly biased criminal prosecution can occur.
For God’s sake, they were ALL kids.
I haven’t followed this story very closely. That said, I don’t understand what all the outrage is about. The biggest problem does not seem to be how the black thugs were treated, but that the white thugs were largely allowed to walk.
Brian – you may want to catch up the reading on this. Were it not for the outrage, another black teen would have had his life derailed as the result of the inequality in our justice system.
Doug – it’s not my suggestion. I guess I should have posted some of the other links but folks all over the ‘net are calling for wearing all black tomorrow.
Vivian, I’ve been reading (and watching) a bit more about this story this afternoon. I can’t that my mind is changed at this point. I saw part of the DA’s presser. He was unequivocal about the vicious nature of the attack by Mychal Bell and his cohorts on their victim. It seems hard to justify their actions.
Would you mind posting a summary of the story as you know it?
Brian – the easiest place to start is with this video. Since the video was made, Bell’s conviction was overturned.
I don’t think anyone is trying to justify violence. The issue of equal justice, though, is why so many have rallied in support of the Jena 6.As I said, but for the outrage at the inequal treatment, Bell would have just been another statistic.
It might be beneficial to reconsider the dress in black request. All black dress is gang colors for some Hispanic and white metal gang groups. Some who wore all black dress might be at risk.
While the Jena 6 were clearly charged out of proportion to the act they committed, the Black community still needs to put out the message to its youth that attacking another person, hitting him even after he is unconscious, is WRONG. I have yet to hear any Black leaders condemn them for what they did.
The Jena 6 were unfairly charged, but they are not innocent. What kind of message are we sending to the African American youth, that it is okay to beat other people up, but we will support you because you are Black?
Don’t sell your soul to save your pride.
i love it “mrs” page how is it that the jena thugs’ lives were derailed bu the duke players should just go away and be quiet??????? and doug how is it a hate crime to put a rope no matter how it is tied or displayed all of a sudden a hate crime, why can it not just be a federal crime which it is if use to intimdate any one. murder is still murder no matter if its white on black or black on black it is no worse when titled a hate crime. its still some ones family member is dead, they are gone period just adding hate crime to it is stupid. i have said it before and i will keep saying it, its only a hate crime if it is done to a black, not white not hispanic, not jew, not christian, not gay only if they are black, this makes no sense to me, why is the life of a black person any more precious then any other made in God’s image. please explain this to me if any one can. im a poor ignorant red neck Cherokee.
It is a shame that after all these years, we are still fighting for equality. This incident has brought light to unjustice every where. Its’ time to take a stand and get this racial inequality ended.
It appears that the six kids were charged too harshly (shoes as weapons? wtf?), but they should definitely be prosecuted. Mychal Bell seems like an especially bad seed. With this conviction tossed, he’s now back to four convictions for violent crimes – he should be in the dock as adult.
Those white kids who beat the black kid probably ought to undergo scrutiny from a prosecutor from the AG’s office. I’m not sure that the local DA is to be trusted to deal with them properly.
so what is a weapon in your eyes, brian. how about a pencil, what about a pot or pan, what about a plastic bag no wait how about a rope is that a weapon. it can not do anything to hurt you, your shoes can not cause death, guess you have never been kicked even by a small child who was not agry with you are trying to hurt you. have you ever played a sport and took a foot to the crotch makes you wish you were dead. i dont think they should have charged as adults, but i do think they should be charged with attempted murder, because not of the number of blows or the number of people involved, even though according to the law that constituted a MOB, but because of the fact the blows for the most part were to head. even in football it is not excepted to hit someone in the head and they have on helments and are in great shape. but they will not face any time as juveniles or adults because of pimp daddy sharpton, and jackoffson are in it for the “children” right believe that if you will they have never done anything that was not for publicity.
