Otherwise, he wouldn’t be the subject of attacks π I mentioned in an earlier post that John Miller raised $157,669 in cash for the July/August reporting period. Wednesday’s Daily Press had an article about it, saying that he raised five times as much as his opponent.
Miller’s financial report runs 31 pages and boasts 464 donors and nearly $158,000 in contributions. Stall’s report is eight pages long, with 117 donors and more than $31,000 in cash and checks.
What makes Miller’s numbers all the more amazing is that he got into the race late.
“The majority of the contributions are $125 or less,” Miller said, noting that his campaign began in mid-July so the reports represent closer to six weeks of work than eight.
The fact that the numbers were so large no doubt scared a few folks.
The Republican Party of Virginia sent out a list of about 40 donors who backed the tax increase five years ago and have already given to Miller, including Northrop Grumman Newport News President Michael Petters, local development company W.M. Jordan and high-profile law firms such as Kaufman and Canoles.
Yeah – well, so what? Is that tax increase back on the table and I somehow missed it? After all, Miller is on record as being against the abuser fees and believes that transportation is “a state responsibility and should not be passed down to localities.” And 40 donors out of 464 certainly doesn’t sound like they are currying favor. Perhaps they just believe he is the better qualified candidate?
Nevertheless, a few Stall backers decided to picket Miller’s headquarters Thursday. Somehow, they got the idea that the support of Miller by such donors meant that he was in favor of the Hampton Roads Transportation Authority. Not so, says Miller:
“I have been crystal clear,” Miller said. “I have opposed the Hampton Roads Transportation Authority from the beginning.”
Looks like Miller has the Stall campaign on the ropes. But he still needs help. Volunteer and contribute to his campaign today. Help make 21 a reality.

Vivian,
you hit it right on the head with the article. John has managed to get well rounded support by opening doors rather than closing them. The only problem with the rally was that I personally missed it since I was out in the field and John’s people didn’t call me so I could have some fun. The election is November 6th so we have to keep the momentum going and let Trish ruin her own campaign.
So by that logic Bush must be doing something right, else he wouldn’t be the object of attacks?
Bush is being attacked because he is doing something criminal, unhonest and wrong, John Miller is being attacked because he is doing something credible and also being honest. Two completely different reasons for attacking someone wouldn’t you say ANON
I like the comment that nunnally says that trish knew nothing about it.
Let me see, Trish works out of nunnally’s office, nunnally is a major fundraiser, and there were tricia stall t shirts there.
nunnally is losing her crediblity and the clout she has with retro.
I admired Ms. Nunnally for her stand for Retro. Then she let Stall hijack it with that green boa.
Run!
“Unhonest”?
Anyway, if he’s doing something criminal, you’ll have to impeach most of Congress, too.
I heard that stall may drop out of the race.
Anon,
I think we might need to impeach our whole government at times.including the Supreme court
I agree, GEM. Some decisions have definity been worty of impeachment. The “logic” in the Helvering v. Davis decision, establishing the constitutionality of Social Security, was particularly ludicrous. Then there is the recent Kelo v. City of New London decision — every decent state is passing laws to strengthen private property rights in the wake of that one. And of course, pornography is protected “speech” (Ashcroft v. ACLU), but campaign ads are not (McConnell v. FEC).
