“Legislative GOP propose property tax cut already in works”

The above is the headline of an AP story by Bob Lewis available here. I couldn’t have come up with a better one myself πŸ™‚

House and Senate Republicans proposed a property tax break Monday for homeowners – legislation already in the pipeline that was initially offered two years ago by Democratic Gov. Timothy M. Kaine.

I guess if it is a good idea, everyone wants to take credit for it. OK, I’ll take credit for my share πŸ™‚ Norfolk’s Board of Review for Real Estate Assessments, of which I was chair, proposed the same thing in January 2005. And, as the article points out, Senator Mary Margaret Whipple and Del. Bob Brink introduced the same proposals.

What this really shows, though, is that different people can arrive at the same solution without consulting each other. No one has a lock on good ideas.

Now about that grandstanding…… πŸ˜‰

  1. Interesting that Republican Hank Giffin has campaigned on the 5% Property Tax Cap, yet his own party is promoting a Homestead Exemption. It is also interesting that Hank Giffin has attacked Paula Miller for wanting to raise taxes because she supports the Homestead Exemption over a 5% Tax Cap.

Will Hank Giffin’s new mail pieces show a change?
