The Virginian Pilot started a series on Wednesday of comparing where the paper stands on various issues with the stances of the candidates
. Kicking off the series was transportation. On Thursday, the issue was a ban on smoking. And today, it was expanded Pre-K. I think you will find some surprises in the candidates’ answers.

These little brief items, which appear in the Hampton Roads section, serve two purposes, at least to me. First, it gives the voters the opportunity to know at a glance where the candidates stand. Second, it provides a clue as to who the Pilot will be endorsing. I’m keeping score – and we’ll see how close I come to predicting the endorsements 😉
Please enlighten me on this question: ‘The General Assemply should appropriate $75 million to expand pre-kindergarten classes for low-income 4-year-olds.”
Expand WHAT pre-kindergarten classes?
Well, now that would be a question for the Pilot 🙂 I don’t know why they phrased it that way.
There’s that question, questions about Paula Miller’s response, and others that I have… all of which are causing me to wonder if the Pilot is not actually doing a disservice to voters with this particular series. I think you are right, Vivian. This is nothing more than CYA for the Pilot when it comes time to their making endorsements. They are setting themselves to nonchalantly endorse the incumbents. The whole thing is just ridiculous.
