I have to admit that none of the arguments against closing the gun show loophole are persuasive. Yet, as you can see from the graphic, there are some people who believe it shouldn’t be closed.

I go to gun shows all over the East. I like to buy and sell collectibles and sometimes firearms, mostly purse sized pistols. There are very few private sales of weapons at gun shows, so this is really a minor issue. It is a disgrace that reporters and others have elected to continue to use the term “loophole” since that rhetoric implies that there is something that should be closed.
The fact is, it is none of the government’s business. The sale of firearms, or anything, should not be a matter of government record. Government has weaseled its way into becoming our lord and master.
Here in America, it used to be that the People ruled, now we live in fear of what the government will next do to us, and our children.
I have had it and I won’t be taking the standard sound-bite crap from the “traditional” candidates anymore. For President, I will vote for RON PAUL. http://www.ronpaul2008.com and locally, I will be voting for any candidate who will vow to repeal the damned RTAs and “abuser fees.”
LET FREEDOM RING, baby!
Sorry, I have been out of town this weekend.
A background check does not constitute a “government record.” In fact, U.S. Code forbids the government’s keeping records of background checks.
I am a very staunch gun-rights, pro-Second Amendment person. I believe the Second Amendment pertains not to hunting rifles and shotguns, but to military weapons. (The Supreme Court ruled against Miller because they were presented with no evidence that a sawed-off shotgun was a military weapon.) The government should not keep records of any gun purchases. However, the instant background checks make it more difficult for a convicted criminal, someone legally incompetent, or an unlawful alien, to obtain a gun.
What I don’t understand is how advocates of the instant background checks can object to Voter ID.
Freedom is no loophole!
Only 5 states limit or ban private sales at gun shows.
In VA, like most states, Americans always had freedom of contract in guns – even the recent federal Brady Act, pushing the limits iof Congess’ power already, did not create a law to allow private sales – it simply never dreamed of toucing private sales.
The reality is that gun transfer rules at gun shows are the same inside gun shows as outside gun shows, like at a garage sale or the parking lot of the Washington Post (in Virginia)- private sales of guns with no paperwork or background checks in the super majority rule as a matter of state law – if you are a private citizen, not a federal dealer, you can sell your guns to others at will.
Only 5 states ban or limit private sales at gun shows.
Another Freedom taken away because of bad people.
When the Government can stop tons of Drugs from coming into the country, we can start discussing the the logic of preventing law abiding citizens of owning and trading guns.
When will that be? When H*!! freezes over.
