another good ad for john, turnout is the key.
Now that Warner’s is up, can Kaine’s and Webb’s be far behind? I look forward to saying hello “Senator Miller”
Thanks Vivian, I borrowed it for VirginiaDem
Forget a photo with Warner or Kaine. This race is in a Republican District. Wake-up already. You HAVE the Democrats, you NEED crossover Republican and Indy votes. Hell, if you did a photo-op with a big fish on a pier, half of Poquoson would vote for John, based on that alone. These bubbas don’t give a crap about Kaine or Warner. Do a photo op with a rod and reel and another with a hunting dog, and this race is a done deal.
Clairese – last time I looked, Warner still had an approval rating of some 70%. And since we know Ds are not 70% of the population, then there must be a bunch of I’s and R’s in that category.
Nice thought V, but those polls are not run just in gerrymandered Republican rich Districts, they are state wide. If you polled just the First District, the approval rating for Kaine would probably be much lower that the 57% Kaine got against Kilgore in 2005, in the First District cities, since folks now know that Kaine was for the abuser fees and the RTAs.
“Toll Road Tim” has lost much of his crossover appeal. Mark Warner has some influence but not among the conservatives, which is who needs to be cultivated in Districts that are majority Republican.
Alan Diamondstein always did a good job of getting his share of the crossover vote by talking with all sorts of conservative groups in his very personable way. John Miller could have done more to reach out to conservatives, but the other Democrats didn’t make very much of an effort toward conservative outreach.
Wait a minute. I guess the poll numbers are in and Miller’s team know they are going to win in a landslide.
Why else would they schedule a photo-op with ultra left, Bobby Scott, just days before the election? What better way to shout in the many evangelical and conservative faces who have been planning to vote for John up until now, “FOOLED YA!” (or more explicit, choice epithets).
What is next? Miller and Billary? Miller and Michael Vick? Miller and the Abu Gahrib torture squad?
Is the Miller campaign trying to lose this race, or do they just have so much contempt for the conservative voters in the First District, that they just can’t help the urge to give Republicans and Independents the finger just once, before election day?
Get off it, Clairese. Just because you don’t like Bobby Scott doesn’t mean that others don’t. Take a look at the last time Scott had a challenger – a conservative Republican. Scott crushed her.
Miller needs the Democratic vote in the 3rd – and there’s no better way to get it than to be seen with the the beloved congressman from the 3rd.
Again – the Republicans (I will not say that all Republicans are conservatives, which you seem to think is the case) do have a majority in the 1st. My understanding is that the district is about 58% Republican, which means that 42% is Democratic. John doesn’t need every Republican vote. But the more he ignores the Democratic vote, the more Republican votes he needs.
It just makes sense to get the D vote and add the R crossover vote. If the Ds stay at home – because they are ignored, because they don’t know the candidate, or for whatever reason – then John loses.
When Ds see Warner, Scott & Kaine supporting Miller, they can have confidence in voting for him.
Actually, I think Bobby Scott is a principled man who sticks by his convictions.
The point is that John Miller needs people on the Right who view Bobby Scott as just anti-everything that they like.
Appearing cozy with Bobby Scott just before the election could cost John much of the goodwill he originally had among those in the crossover pool out here in bubbaville.
