Both those Senate commercials are excellent.
I am a bit disturbed by the use of the word “crackdown” in Miller & Mathieson’s commercials regarding illegal immigration.
What is needed are not crackdowns and divisive rhetoric that fuels further division and does not solve a single legitimate issue that people are concerned about. What is needed are pragmatic steps at the state and local level to ensure that the problems people are facing in their neighborhoods are addressed, that the laborer sites are not a nuisance and free-for-all, and that people are not made to feel unwelcome in the communities in which they are living and working, whether they are legal or illegal immigrants–because there’s a lot of LEGAL ones. And they are being targeted now as well.
The only government entity that can legally, ethically, and rightfully conduct a “crackdown” on illegal immigration is federal. State and local governments are stuck dealing with the symptoms of the problem created by the lack of action federally. It’s time for them to fix it up there.
Let us make sure to do something to RESPONSIBLY and COMPASSIONATELY address actual problems. Let us NOT needlessly scare and divide people based in some of the same old prejudices resurfacing that we have been fighting for a 100 years…
I’m with Doug. Too many Democratic candidates this cycle have given in to the notion that they must use the politics of fear to get elected. That’s neither progressive nor democratic.

Poll-driven politics is all it is. Not what is right, but what is expedient.
