Alphonso Albert has resigned his position with the City of Norfolk, according to this article on PilotOnline. Albert’s resignation letter and City Manager Regina Williams’ acceptance of it are here.
Albert was initially appointed to head up the Office of Public and Criminal Justice. Once his background became known, there was a public outcry, much of it surrounding his salary. Last week, Albert was appointed to another position within the city – another newly created post – purportedly after Williams refused to fire him. This latest decision by Williams apparently was not well received by certain member of council.
While this closes the book on this particular case, I believe the problem of the process remains. It shouldn’t have had to come to this.
in the city of norfolk, i think more police are needed, making newly with better pay , making high paid positions behind doors are not needed.
Althrough Albert may be a great guy and paid his debt (uhm)…THE REST OF HIS DEBT to society in 2007 DOES NOT SIT WELL in my coffers. Yes, he may be doing an outstanding job working with other felons to find employment but other NON – FELONS also work with the jobless and homeless. I would love to see our Social Workers receive 94’000 dollars a year helping people who are innocent victums of proverty. Who knows…Albert could have personlly affected these innocents by selling them drugs 30 years ago…and in turned affect the children of these drug addicts. He may be personally responsible for some children who are in foster care today because of his drug activities back then.
I am a African American person and believe in giving others a chance however, I can not for the life of me get pass his past. He is associated with selling drugs, guns and not one murder but two thats two many pills to swallow. Give the big paychecks to the dedicated people helpers…i.e. Human Service Workers, Social Workers and people who…. ALSO are advocates that meet the needs of the innocent.
