Sean Taylor: 1983-2007

Redskins safety Sean Taylor passed away last night, the result of a shooting in his home. Like Jim Ducibella, I am in shock. I had just finished reading the profile of Taylor in this morning’s Virginian Pilot when I got to the computer and read the news.

Another young man who was turning his life around had it snuffed out. From all that I have read, Taylor did a 360 upon the birth of his daughter, Jackie, on whom he doted.

Gibbs said Taylor would cradle the baby in his arms as he carried her into Redskin Park and “you just knew how much that baby meant to him. I could see (that) maturing process (that happens) when you get a first child.”

A young man gone, a daughter who will never know her father. Such a shame.

Rest in peace, Sean.

  1. This is a sad day for Redskins fans everywhere. Sean Taylor’s story is a tragic one, to end like this just when he was unlocking his full potential in life. His baby girl will never get to know her father as she grows up. And to think, Sean Taylor was only a year older than me. Far too short a life.

And if anyone needs prayer right now, it is Sean’s teammates and coaches, who have lost a “family member”. It is Sean’s loved ones, who lost a young man far too early in his life. And most of all, it is Sean’s daughter, whom we can only pray finds another strong role model in her life, someone she can call “daddy”, even if he could never truly replace Sean.

I have always been a proud Redskins fan, and I stand with all mourning this unjust loss.

  2. I wish that I could say that I was terribly surprised when I heard that it was Sean Taylor who was shot. Knowing, his history however, I wasn’t. Having now learned how he seemed to have “turned his life around,” the story is that much more tragic.

  3. CR UVA I completely agree. I am also a proud die hard Redskins fan and have been for since I was a little girl. I cannot remember a sadder day for the team and fans. I can’t imagine the heartbreak his family is feeling too.
I have been pretty much choked up all day.
Rest in peace #21, you are in our prayers.
