Sunday Forgit news

Forgit sidebarPhilip Forgit, the Democratic candidate for the 1st Congressional District, is on a roll! First, we have the endorsement of the Daily Press.

On balance, though, Forgit represents momentum toward the pragmatic middle, and toward solutions, which is where Congress needs to go.

Forgit also received the endorsement of the Virginia Gazette, a newspaper in Williamsburg. The endorsement is not yet available on line, but here’s a snippet:

By geography alone, Philip Forgit, 40, trumps Wittman. He lives in York
County and used to teach in WJC Schools. This puts him squarely in the
middle of the district in terms of population. His previous race for
the conservative for the conservative 96th extended his reach deep into
York County, where he came close to beating Melanie Rapp.

Therein lies a bigger distinction. For the 96th, Forgit campaigned on
the issues in a tough district without much money or other support. He
did it on ideas, and he’s doing it again on ideas.

[…]

Forgit is not just the local candidate, he’s up on the issues and has the
passion to serve. He has all the conservative credentials to fairly
represent the district, and he is well aware the constituent services
are Job 1. He observed elections in Iraq where 80% of the electorate
turned out despite IEDs, car bombs and other hazards.

As mentioned earlier, the three candidates appeared on On the Record this morning. Kudos to WVEC for getting the video up early. It’s available now here. See for yourself why Rob Wittman has been running commercials instead of debating.

Forgit was also the subject of a bio piece in today’s Daily Press. You can read that here.

The special election is this Tuesday, December 11. The Forgit campaign can use your help in getting out the vote. In its endorsement, the Virginia Gazette mentioned that this is a 56% performing Republican district. Forgit can win. Check out this post for how you can help him with phonebanking and canvassing. Of course, money is always good, too πŸ˜‰

  1. Phil made a personal visit to Stafford today with Brian Moran and Chap Petersen … the office was filled with supporters ready to do GOTV work .. going door-to-door and phone calling … lots of good stuff moving toward Election Tuesday

  2. As a sixth district resident, I can only speak as a spectator, but I have been blown away by the Democratic Party’s GOTV operations surrounding Forgit’s candidacy. The fact that they’ve built such an efficient GOTV machine in such a short amount of time is extremely impressive to me, and should make any Democrat proud.
