Just received from the campaign of Philip Forgit:
I’m proud of the work that we did. We fought a great fight. Today I am proud to be a Virginia Democrat and I have to say how thankful I am for the support I received from our Virginia Democratic leaders as well as local chapters and volunteers across the district. They knew Virginia, they knew me, and they knew this was a historic opportunity worth fighting for. I’m thankful for the support I received from Governor Kaine, Senator Webb, and Governor Warner.
This wasn’t a loss for Virginia Democrats; we weren’t able to match the resources that the National Republicans invested in this race.
I will continue to fight to give our men and women in uniform the support and protection they need, to provide our veterans with the benefits and health care they deserve, and to make our schools the best in the country so that America can continue to lead the world for years to come.

It’s a shame there wasn’t a better showing from the National Dems in the area. Forgit’s a good guy and could’ve used the support.
Lucky Narain gets 1300 votes on an election with very low voter turn-out and he had nobody supporting him.. tells me if Forgit had proper support he may have actually stood a chance.
I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of Mr Narain.
The First District is so gerrymandered, the Republicans could run a corpse and win there; which is pretty close to what they did.
Phil writes, “This wasn’t a loss for Virginia Democrats…” Well, Phil if you think that wasn’t a loss, then you must be in that river in Egypt; you know, denial! That was a punch in the stomach and puke your guts out, beating, and all with a mere fifteen per cent turn out.
It is not Phil’s fault alone. Democrats just didn’t come out to vote. There are about 100,000 Democrats in the First District and most just couldn’t interrupt their trips to the mall to help Phil Forgit (and Virginia) get a good man in Congress. Now, instead of Phil, you are going to “enjoy” a glassy-eyed Bible thumper, as your very own Congressman, courtesy of the Religious Reich.
I hope Phil Forgit and Lucky Narain will try again in November. For the General Election, I think Phil could do much better, especially if he takes a page from Mark Warner and John Miller’s strategy and aggressively works with key conservative blocks like the VCDL, SCV, and Hunting and Fishing clubs. The District is full of conservatives, but that doesn’t mean that they like what the Republicans have offered them, so next time follow John Miller and Mark Warner’s formula. Like Mudcat says, “We can out bubba those guys!”
Philip has basically said he will not be running again in November, according to this post.
Fifteen percent. I kept thinking that over, after that so-called “election.”
With so few citizens bothering to come out and vote, haven’t we as a People abdicated control of our government to the multinational corporations and a few interest groups, such as the Religious Reich?
Fifteen percent participated and nine percent elected the Congressman for the First District. This is hardly the hallmark of a Democratic Republic.
This sort of voter apathy (stupidity) could lead us to an imperial President who could bully a do-nothing Congress and cow the Supreme Court into doing his bidding. Oops! Too late, sheeple, this is exactly what we have now with “W.”
