VA Dems certify 6

The Democratic Party of Virginia has certified six candidates for the February 12, 2008 presidential primary.

Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich, Barack Obama, and Bill Richardson all turned in enough signatures to the Virginia State Board of Elections to qualify to run in the Commonwealth. Chris Dodd did not file with the State Board of Elections by the December 14, 5:00 pm deadline.

In addition to the thousands of signatures each of the candidates submitted, the DPVA collected more than 7,300 others.

And I guess Mike Gravel didn’t even try to get on the ballot. That says a lot about his and Dodd’s candidacies.

I guess now’s probably a good time to mention that I’m intending to shift my posting of national issues, including the presidential race, over to The Women’s Post. (And I’m hoping that my fellow bloggers over there will start getting active, too.)

UPDATE: Bob Gibson reports that Chris Dodd turned his petitions in at the wrong place! Dodd is going to fight to get on the ballot.

  1. Tonight at 8pm EST on Third Rail check out our live exclusive interview with democratic presidential candidate Senator Mike Gravel. We will discuss his current campaign as well as his recent exclusion from the Des Moines Register debate. Call in and check it out at thirdrailradio.com

  2. The Gravel campaign put out an email on the 10th looking for petition circulators, collectors and notaries. I wonder if they were expecting the Sign for Eight petitions to do the whole job for them. it wouldn’t surprise me, though, if they were just plain disorganized.
