Some of the presidential candidates have issued statements on this morning’s assassination of Benazir Bhutto. First the Democratic contenders:
I couldn’t find anything on the websites of Dennis Kucinich or Mike Gravel.
The Republican candidates:
Nothing on the sites of Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, or Ron Paul.

Bill Richardson’s statement was the best by far. It is a shame that Americans can not see that he is the most qualified individual running for the Office of President of the United States.
Now the Dems want American to fight and support democracy around the world against these “terrorists”, how ironic! What a joke!
rlewis, please give me a list of all the countries rushing towards democracy during Bush’s presidency.
rlewis has apparently missed the fact that one of two key powerplayers was shot and blown up along with a score of people and before scores of others in an already destabilized nation which possesses nuclear weapons with actors who have independently participated in the unauthorized and unsanctioned distribution of technical expertise regarding nuclearized weapons. Otherwise he wouldn’t make the mistake of assuming that democrats with ballots are the biggest threat to his way of life.
“Domestic policy can only defeat us; foreign policy can kill us.” ~John F. Kennedy
So what you are saying Louis, is that all of these countries would have raced toward democracy if Bush was not President and lets say Gore was or Kerry. What because they would have not invaded iraq.
I believe it was Clintons foreign policy that killed us on 9/11.
We’d give a good damn what you believed if we hadn’t already rolled you up with the lunatics who think the CIA invented crack cocaine to keep the black man down and that Haliburton planned 9/11, rlewis. I’d offer a counter criticism of some kind but you made yourself irrelevant a long time ago.
typical anonymous, all talk. You mind is clearly brain washed to think on one track. As usual, you don’t like it when someone disagrees with you. I would love to meet you someday, your head must fill up a whole room.
That’s fascinating. Tell me again about how the Apollo landings were filmed on a sound stage?
Edwards spoke to Musharraf. Frankly, it’s a far sight better than what we’ve seen from Clinton and Obama.
Bhutto was a crook, and she was no saviour of Pakistan. But she did not deserve to die, and Pakistan does not deserve to have its politics shaped by assassination.
A year ago, I was waking up in Karachi. Over the next couple of weeks, I got to meet a country that I’d only previously known through news reports, reading, and close friends. Pakistan is a mess, but I’ve developed a respect and affinity for the place. Some of the kindest people I know are sons and daughters of Pakistan. I wish I could urge action on our part, but there is very little to do, in all honesty. This is a mess of Pakistan’s making, and it is something that only Pakistan can address. For all of our sakes, I hope they can.
It seems that an Obama advisor tried to link Bhutto’s death to Clinton’s vote on Iraq. A stretch, I think.
Wow, I don’t know where some of you are coming from. You are right vjp, and I think this brings to light the importance of electing a person with prior knowledge and experience with world leaders. The last time we gave someone on the job training, look where it has gotten us(BUSH)! Think before you vote!
I thought Richardson had the worst of the statements (except for Huckabee and Paul.) He brags about his diplomatic experience and he’s calling for Musharraf to resign? You’d think had no knowledge of the backstory here.
It looks like someone has the news all wrong. Evidently Bhutto wasn’t assassinated at all but she hit her head on the sunroof as she was reentering the vehicle. Why if this is true are we getting all these fake headlines saying she was assassinated. No Bullets, and no shrapnel from a bomb. That is the official report according to the Pakistani government. somewhere us Americans are being asked to turn our attention once again from the real problems in the U.S. to sticking our nose where it shouldn’t be.
No one will ever believe that, GEM, even if it’s true. But I do agree – I think everyone would be better off if the US kept its nose out of Pakistan’s domestic politics.
