Say it ain’t so, Joe

Washington Redskins logoJoe Gibbs will resign as head coach of the Washington Redskins today. Despite all of the ups and downs of his latest tenure with the team, I have always thought Gibbs brought an intangible to the team that other coaches did not. And given Dan Snyder’s picks for coaches (and players) over the years of his ownership, Gibbs brought back to the team the steady hand of experience.

Many have said that the game has passed him by, not only in terms of the way the game is played but in terms of personnel. Salary caps, free agency – those are things that Gibbs did not have to deal with in his first term. To some extent, I agree, especially in his first year back. But Gibbs made the adjustments, especially when hiring his coaches.

I’m going to miss you, Joe.

  1. I’m sad too. Gibbs is a true class act and a leader. He stood with the Skins in some of the darkest days the team has ever seen. I also pray for his family, his 2 year old granddaughter has leukemia.
I hope (as I heard on John Riggen’s show) that Gregg Willaims is a probable candidate. He’s done a helluva job as Defensive coach.
    Hail to the Redskins!!!

  2. for all the redskin fans who said they would win a playoff game , i was right! as for joe getting out before the house falls down, yes just another sad day for you poor skins, for all you political people NH i saw frist had what a mad house is in NH all week and election night, they are hardcore maybe that is why they are number 1.
