Richardson out

The guy with the best resume in the presidential race, New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, has decided to drop out, according to this AP story.

Richardson planned to announce the decision Thursday, according to two people close to the governor with knowledge of the decision. They spoke on a condition of anonymity in advance of the governor’s announcement.

Richardson’s campaign would not comment on the governor’s decision, reached after a meeting with his top advisers Wednesday in New Mexico.

I should have known this was coming. After the Iowa caucus, Richardson’s email was the first one I received, proclaiming his “Final Four” status. I have yet to receive an email from the Richardson campaign since Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, in which Richardson received just 2% of the vote.

I suspect we have not heard the last of Bill Richardson. Outside of another presidential run, the likelihood of which I’d put near zero right now, expect him to get a nice assignment in the next administration.

  1. Jeez, Kevin, there are no qualified candidates left in the Democratic Primaries. After Dodd and Biden dropped out, Richardson was the only one.
