Last night, we got a chance to see performances by the 12 male finalists, including Colton Berry, from Staunton VA. Colton may not be going home in Thursday’s results show, but he wasn’t the best performer of the night. For me, the best one was Jason Yeager. The theme of the night was 1960s music and this guy did a wonderful job on Moon River. A close second was another Jason – Jason Castro. The kid showed that he has his own style. And what can I say about David Archuleta? Another kid – he’s only 17 – but one with a huge voice.
I was disappointed in Chikezie’s performance. I thought this genre would have fit him perfectly but his performance was, well, ordinary. Luke Menard looks the part, but his voice is too tiny. David Hernandez, Danny Noriega and David Cook all turned in respectable, if not spectacular, performances. Expect rocker Michael Johns to be around a while.
The two that probably should go home, at least in my opinion, are wannabe rocker Robbie Carrico and a 17-year-old who sounds like a 17-year-old Garrett Haley.
The 12 gals are on at 8pm tonight.
You really thought Yeager was the best? As an Audrey Hepburn fan, I was offended by his performance. It was entirely forgettable. I think he and Luke Menard will get the axe this week. Both were too boring, which is the kiss of death in Idol.
Seriously though, David Archuletta is inhumanly adorable. And yet he still managed to score big time with a Smokey Robinson joint. Awesome!
Yes, I thought Yeager was the best. He showed tremendous range and control. Of course, this is coming from an old music major so what I may think is the best performance may not be what other folks like.
Luke will probably hang around because he’s cute.
By the way, I see the folks at Vote for the Worst have picked Danny Noriega this week.
I have a feeling Garrett Haley might turn into the Sanjaya of this season — a person who is so bad that people vote for as some sort of joke.
17-year-olds! with voices like they do! Outstanding, especially Archuleta.
Danny Noriega, huh? That’s all I needed to know. 😉
Thanks God the strike is over.
