American Idol Results 02/28/08

American Idol LogoDirecTV changed their broadcast of hi-def programming a few months back, requiring me to change out my (expensive) hi-def TiVo box for (a cheap) one provided by them. Since then, I’ve had nothing but trouble with recording my shows. Tuesday evening, the American Idol guys show started recording 36 minutes in, which meant that I missed the first four performances. Of the ones I saw, kid wonder David Archuleta was the best. He blew me away with his interpretation of John Lennon’s Imagine.

Wednesday, the gals took on the same genre – 1970s music – without nearly as much success as the guys. Honestly, none of the women impressed me. With all of the great music from that decade, they really made some strange choices. I could see just about any one of them being voted off.

Thursday night was results night. Ryan Seacrest reported that nearly 30 million votes were cast. The first guy to be voted off came down to Jason Yeager and Vote for the Worst (VTW) choice Danny Noriega. I did see both of these performances and Yeager did a much better job. But he was eliminated.

The choice for the first woman to leave came down to Alexandrea Lushington and rocker girl Amanda Overmyer. Amanda did a poor job on her song, earning her votes from the VTW crew. As the result, it was Alexandrea who was eliminated.

The next two women considered for elimination were two of the blondes I mentioned last week, Alaina Whitaker and Kady Malloy. It was Alaina who was eliminated and then, surrounded by the other female contestants, managed to get through Oliva Newton John’s Hopelessly Devoted to You.

The final two to be considered for elimination were Luke Menard and wannabe rocker Robbie Carrico. So I was off by a week – it was Robbie’s night to be eliminated.

You know, I’m thinking there should be a Vote for the Best website. Maybe then we could counter the VTW crew.
