Norfolk council candidates face challengers

On May 6, Norfolk will hold elections for the two council seats representing the superwards. The deadline for filing to run was 7pm Tuesday. According to the SBE, both incumbents have challengers.

Ward 6 councilman Barclay Winn is being challenged by Jack Stiles. If the name sounds familiar, it is because Jack has been a frequent commenter on this blog. (Unfortunately, the search bar on the right does not locate information in comments.) Stiles is an Ocean View resident.

Ward 7 councilwoman Daun Hesteris being challenged by Dwight McDowell, vice chairman of the recreation commission. The only bio I could find online for McDowell is here (scroll down).

I’ve already expressed my opinion on these two races. Nevertheless, just as I did two years ago, I’ll be sending emails/letters to all of the candidates, offering to publish on this blog what they think is important.

==========

Chesapeake and Portsmouth also have local elections this May. Lots of candidates in those two cities! Those will be some interesting races.
