The music of Dolly Parton was featured on Tuesday’s show. I’m a longtime Dolly fan – she’s one heck of a songwriter. So the contestants had a rather wide range of songs to choose from. Some chose well, others — well, let’s just say they didn’t do Dolly justice.
Wednesday night’s show got off to a rather fast start, with three contestants quickly getting their results. First up was Michael Johns. This guy should give up rock and stick with blues. Last night’s performance was his best of the season. And he was rewarded by being safe. Wonderkid David Archuleta did a decent, although not outstanding, job last night and he was also safe. Carly also did a pretty good job, and joined the previous two in the Elite Eight.
Then the lull. Would somebody clue in the folks at AI that the call-in stuff is not only a time-waster but boring? Thank goodness they didn’t take that many calls. But then we were treated to “The Clark Brothers.” Absolute torture. I think I’d rather listen to the inane calls. Yes, they were that bad.
Back to the results. David Cook, rocker dude, made it through. As I expected, my favorite Ramiele was the first named to the bottom three. Man, I wish I was there so that I could give her some tips. She’s got a really great voice but her stage presence needs work. Joining her was Kristy Lee, the VFW contestant, who actually did a good job last night.
After the break, Whitney wannabe – who did a really horrible imitation last night – was declared safe. She should have been in the bottom three with that performance.
Left was Brooke and that guy Jason. Honestly, both of them should have been the bottom three. But it was Brooke who put in the bottom three, with Jason being safe.
Dolly Parton performed next. At 62, she no longer has the voice that she used to have but her performance was at least entertaining, even with the obligatory gospel choir.
So the bottom three: Ramiele, Kristy Lee and Brooke. Brooke was safe and I guess VFW got Kristy Lee enough votes for to keep her in because it was the little girl with the big voice who got voted off. With her tremendous voice, I can’t believe this is the last we have heard of her. Somebody out there – give that young lady a recording contract.
Since Kristy Lee had made it through so far, I had a strong feeling she’d make it through yet again tonight since this week they were singing country music — her strongest genre of music.
Yeah. I thought she did pretty well. My bottom 3 would have been Brooke, Jason and Syesha. And I would have been satisfied to see any one of them gone.
