With the local polls closed, the results are just starting to roll in. The Norfolk results can be found here, the Chesapeake ones here, and the Portsmouth ones here. (Sorry, Peninsula – three cities for me to follow is enough π¦ )
Early results in Norfolk show both incumbents – Daun Hester and Barclay Winn – comfortably ahead.
Over in Chesapeake it looks like the new mayor will be Alan Krasnoff. With 53 of 54 precincts in, he is leading Rebecca Adams by about 1,200 votes. I think there are going to be some folks in Chesapeake who are disappointed in this outcome.
For City Council, there will be 6 winners from the 15 candidates. Leading are Debbie Ritter, Rick West, Suzy Kelly Dwight Parker*, Patricia Willis*, Gene Waters and Cliff Hayes*.
For Chesapeake School Board, there were 6 candidates vying for 4 seats. Top vote getters are Thomas Mercer*, Jeff Bunn, George Van Laetham Tina Pullen and Brenda Johnson*.
Over in Portsmouth all 32 precincts have reported. James Holley has been re-elected mayor by a very small margin – less than 300 votes.
There were three seats up for Portsmouth council, with eight candidates. The top three were Charles Whitehurst, Elizabeth Psimas* and Steve Heretick*.
Seven candidates ran for the 5 seats available on the Portsmouth School Board. Garnering the most votes were Costella Williams, Elizabeth Daniels*, James Bridgeford*, Ned McCabe and Keith Nance*.
*-incumbent
Thanks to all of the candidates who put themselves out here and ran for office. My hat’s off to you.

What’s really weird is that I can’t find any local TV coverage of these races. In the past, the local stations would have a crawl at the bottom of the screen with the info but I’ve checked the channels several times and found nothing. What’s up with that?
Good luck to tjhe next 4 years mr, winn, the people have spoken.
What’s up with “write in” candidate- Vic Yurkovic?
He goes to my parish and I didn’t know he was doing this until I saw the signs on the way home from work..
Was it a last minute thing?
I first got wind of it about 2 or 3 days ago. I guess it was last minute. So far, there are no write-in votes showing up on the SBE website. More info here.
Looks like the fun is in Portsmouth:
1. Holley barely holds on against a second tier challenger. You have to wonder what a strong challenge could have done.
2. Louise Lucas may have made one of the best investments in her life with that money to Whitehurst. π
The Holley win certainly will be a story. Whitehurst had good name recognition and that story only brought more.
But look at Chesapeake – their Vice Mayor lost. Is it possible that they just had too many candidates?
Update – apparently the SBE website was wrong. Vice Mayor Dwight Parker was re-elected in Chesapeake.
Vivian,
Newport News had a little disaster on election day. Tina Vick in the south district which was in the Dems favor. however in the Central city council and school board races the citizens elected two very extreme right wing kooks who are solidly in the Republican camps. the flip side is that I will work to make their gong extremely tough. They are my representatives so that is my job. Both of their intents are to cut, cut, cut up to 10-15% off all services in the city for a property tax cut. The school board winner Betty Dixon wants zero, zero tolerance and merit pay system, both of which will end up being disastrous. My son who graduated with honors would never have graduated if her policies were in affect. Just a brief look for you in Newport News. Hooray for Molly Ward, a very bright spot on the day after the election.
to everyone that voted for me hank you, ok i got my butt kicked but in politics there is always another race around corner.
