On the Record returns this Sunday with a conversation about the Navy’s desire to locate an outlying landing field. The facility requires 2,000 acres and an agreement by the host community not to build homes on 28,000 acres around it. Two sites have been identified in NC and three sites in VA, but the NIMBY rule has come into play: no one wants the noise and other issues associated with them.
Host Joel Rubin will be joined by two Navy officials and three county administrators to discuss this.
Catch OTR at 11:30am on WVEC. If you miss the airing, it will be available on the website on Monday.
Isn’t there a field at Blackstone that they could refurbish and use? Also, why can’t the Air Force and the Navy work together and use fields together?
Joel Rubin has known about this issue and the June 7 (yesterday) deadline for submitting public comments for months now. It is very poor of him to schedule this program so late in the scoping process. It shows where his priorities lie.
