I have long argued that a primary battle between Creigh Deeds and Brian Moran was a bad idea and have been calling for the DPVA leadership to step in and settle it before it gets out of hand.
Well, it’s gotten out of hand.
The emails and public comments made as the result of the fiiling of finance reports Tuesday were more than the usual “dick waving” (as George Carlin would have put it). As the day wore on, the level of civility dropped – dramatically. I’m not going to get into who started it, mainly because it reminds me of a schoolyard fight. As one who was involved in enough of those in my formative years, I know that who threw the first punch ultimately didn’t matter – both parties ended up getting suspended.
So cut it out, guys. Show some of that Virginia gentleman spirit that you have. And don’t let your mouthpieces within the campaign do your dirty work, because it reflects poorly on you. Keep your eye on the prize.
Your comment to not let the mouthpieces speak for them is so pertinent. I have contended for quite some time that if the candidates had to speak more frequently for themselves, the tone of the debate would be somewhat different. Too many of these flacks think if they repeat the smarmy lines they learned at their training sessions in DC they are responding well. All it really does is make the campaigns sound childish and insignificant.
Moran and Deeds are both honorable men who are bright and caring. If we heard from THEM instead of young mush mouths who act as spokespersons, some of these debates wouldn’t escalate into such meaningless drivel.
Good advice to the candidates — let’s hope they listen to you.
Hear hear.
Mush mouth…
Personally, I hope they keep it up…if only for the entertainment value.
It is not any different than Hillary and Obama is it? Obviously Moran and Deeds each feel they are better or more qualified for the position.
Hahahahahah….your comment on “dickwaving” was completely right on…I am tempted to mail each campaign a “ruler”….
It’s getting silly very early- we need to get through this cycle first.
Why is it that the year Democrats across the Nation should have it easy (GOP having problems, POUTUS approval in the crapper) the Dems are plagued with infighting and bickering? I mean this is true from the Presidential race and below.
Are Dems only happy when they are fighting someone? Even themselves?!?! I am being serious. Dems should be able to just show up and win every election but they destroy themselves on the way to file papers it would seem.
Odd. I would not blame the candidates. I think blame should be on the leadership… Dean on down. This is what happens when you try to appease EVERYONE all of the time without showing leadership. Seems as if the DPVA is suffereing the same ills.
