The Washington Redskins opened training camp today with new head coach Jim Zorn, himself a former NFL quarterback, at the helm. The first news of the day wasn’t good:starting defensive end Philip Daniels tore a ligament in his left knee on the first play of 7-on-7 drills and is lost for the season. And in the afternoon practice, another DE, Alex Buzbee, tore his Achilles tendon and is also lost for the season.
The good news: the Redskins made a deal with Miami Dolphins for DE Jason Taylor. According to the AP (via PilotOnline), the ‘Skins gave the Dolphins a second-round pick in 2009 and a sixth-round pick in 2010. Taylor is expected in camp tomorrow.
While I wouldn’t wish injury on anyone, I’m pretty psyched to have Taylor in a Redskins uniform.
I was excited as well about Taylor.
I’m also looking forward to hearing how Colt Brennan will progress as the rookie QB.
I still don’t have complete faith in Jason Campbell and would like to see Todd Collins start this season while Brennan is groomed.
I just received an email on Friday that after a wait of 16 (!) years on the waiting list for season tickets I am finally eligible for tickets (nosebleed, of course). Sad to say that I don’t have 2k lying around….sigh. Last year I could have but with everything costing so much more, I can’t justify it.
I guess I’ll be cheering in front of my TV. Go Skins!
If I lived closer to DC, I would have gotten on the list years ago. I’ve not even made it to the new stadium yet, although I did go to RFK. (Of course, if I got an email after 16 years, I think I’d just HAVE to figure a way to buy the tickets.)
I’m with you on benching Campbell. Plus, Zorn has instituted a new system. I don’t know if Campbell can handle it. At the same time, as much as I like Collins, I don’t know how close this new system is to the one that was used last season, with which he was intimately familiar.
Proud:
Talk to some friends (and blog acquaintences) and try to split the tickets. You may be able to go to only one game out of eight this year, but you will be a season-ticket-holder.
I have been to the new stadium for a game — the VT-USC game! The Redskins have yet to get a croud that big!
Oh, is it time for the Redskins to play my team, the Broncos again?
I haven’t looked at the schedule. NFL Sunday Ticket is on tap, and it will be another season of great football. I am resigned that no one wants to come over to watch with me, so I will just have fun over here myself! My dad and brother might come out this year for some games.
Go Broncos!!
I’ve have NFL Sunday Ticket as well but I don’t try to have people over to watch the games because most of them want to talk too much 😦
As for the Broncos – well, we’ll have to take a look at the schedule and see when/where they play the Redskins. Maybe a friendly wager? 😀
For whatever reason, I feel very good about this season for the Redskins. Not sure about Campbell, but if the rest of the offense is working, he doesn’t have to be a star, just competent.
Mouse, I’m thinking about it. Just the irony- I never thought my number would get called up! My late Father and I were on the list together and this was our “thing”.
My other half isnt a football fan so I may go with a neighbor.
Even with the tickets, I’d still have to pay for parking and there is a $50/ticket “activation” fee. Plus- I think it’s like $9/beer (yikes). Also, it takes HOURS to leave FedEx so that would lead to some rough Mondays 🙂
I miss RFK- that place had a lot of charm.
No Broncos-Redskins matchup in the regular season.
That doesn’t mean we can’t meet (again) in the big game!!!
Seriously though, I also can’t wait to start making chili on Saturday for the games again.
Campbell played in a similar system his last year at Auburn. He should be able to pick this up fairly well.
