Pickup basketball injuries: McDonnell and Warner

I see that AG Bob McDonnell and our next Senator, Mark Warner, have both suffered injuries from playing pickup basketball. According to the Virginian Pilot, McDonnell will have his jaw wired shut for two weeks. And according to NBC29, Warner cancelled some appearances due to problems with his knee.

I guess there’s something to be said for old guys – McDonnell, born exactly six months earlier than Warner, is 54, while Warner is 53 – trying to both stay in shape and re-live their youths, but c’mon guys, you gotta be careful out there. If you must play basketball, leave it to the youngsters to chase down the loose balls 😉 Despite how young at heart you may be, your bodies are telling you something different.

Here’s wishing a speedy recovery to both.

  1. The Pilot says Bob McDonnell broke his jaw running into a boxing ring trying to chase a loose ball out of bounds? I bet he wishes now he’d just told people he broke it in the ring and left out all that other stuff, huh? Of course it’s only natural that there’d be some interest in the accident, when his friends and neighbors found out his jaw was going to be wired shut for two weeks, they wanted to know what happened. When Mrs. McDonnell found out it was going to be wired shut for two weeks, she wanted to know who she had to bribe to make it four.

Isn’t this going just a little bit far for headlines, by the way? I know he’s running for governor, but geez. 😉

Sorry, there’s just too much about this particular story that deserves 60 seconds in Leno’s monologue tomorrow, but with the Olympics and all we’re not going to get a chance to hear it, so we should take the responsiblity ourselves. But in all seriousness, it’s great that he’s going to be okay and I wish him a speedy recovery. 🙂
