Monday in Denver – so far

I slept like a rock. When the alarm went off this morning at 7am, I wasn’t anywhere near ready to get up. I got dressed and headed downstairs for a cup of coffee. Yes, they have coffee pots in the room but I much prefer real cream or milk over that powdered stuff. While downstairs, I ran into Kerry Dougherty of the Virginian Pilot, who is blogging the convention, too.

Breakfast with the VA delegation was fun. It was good to see folks from all over before we split up and went our separate ways. We had a few speakers today, most notably Mark Warner. Warner, by the way, also has a Twitter account. Check out his posts. He’s been interviewed everywhere today.

I headed over to the Colorado Convention Center, just blocks from our hotel and the location of a number of events, for the Black Caucus meeting. I didn’t stay too long but long enough, as those of you who are following me on Twitter already know, to see two protesters removed from the meeting. These events are open to the public so anyone can come in after passing through security. Each protester was shouted down by the participants in the meeting.

I met up with Del. Jennifer McClellan and fiance Dave Mills. We headed over to the Denver Aquarium for a DLCC-sponsored luncheon. We rode the bus part of the way and walked part of the way. The walking part I could have done without 😦 It’s kinda warm here today. It was a good event, though. I got a chance to chat with Del. Mark Sickles, who is on the Rules Committee. Interesting, to say the least.

I also ran into Del. Bob Brink, which reminded me that I hadn’t mentioned that he’s got a portable video camera and is posting short videos on his blog, 7 West. He’s using a device called a Flip. I played with a friend’s today. Cool device. I need to check it out šŸ˜‰

Headed from there over to The Big Tent. Well, it’s not really a tent but it’s big and it was full of bloggers. I talked to one of the state bloggers from WVA, who is using this cool little Asus machine. I also ran into VA blogger Johnny Camacho and his blogging buddy, Dan Solis, both blogging for Think Youth. Finally, I had quite an interesting conversation with the state blogger from Puerto Rico. And I finally ran into Mark Brooks, but he was giving an interview and I had to keep moving šŸ˜‰

I’m about to change and head over to the Pepsi Center for tonight’s speeches. And then to a reception afterwards. Follow me on Twitter for the latest updates.

  1. Vivian I’m watching every minute of the convention on PBS and hoping to see you in the crowd!! I’m sorry but the Hillary hangers on are making me mad. I see no constructive purpose for this part of the process if we know she is going to release her delegates. It seems like misplaced personal anger rather than looking at the long term goal. Cheryl

  2. I did not like the way the protesters were treated and felt someone from the delegation should’ve stood up for at least the Veterans of the Iraq war protesting the war outside who were treated terribly by the thug-police. Someone should’ve done something. I thought we were the “liberal” party.
