There is a wealth of information out there about VP candidate Sarah Palin. But the best source I’ve found is a blog called Mudflats. The writer lives in Alaska and has been covering politics from there since well before Palin was chosen. Being close to the action, the blog gives an interesting, local perspective on her.
For example, the writer attended two rallies in Anchorage last Saturday – one, a “Welcome Home” rally and the other for women who reject Palin. You’ve probably already seen the YouTube video of the latter, which is making the rounds. But you may not have seen the photos. Check out this post, which contains pictures of both rallies and compares the crowd sizes between the two. Looks like the anti-Palin rally was the larger of the two.
Anyway – if you are looking for a local perspective on Sarah Palin, Mudflats is the place to go.
Shouldn’t we rather seek to be Pro-Obama/Biden instead of coming from the stand point of being “anti” or against anything. I would prefer to hear the affirmations regarding what Obama/Biden will deliver to our country than listen to anymore criticisms of someone on the other sides ticket in the VP slot.
I am concerned not what Palin has to say nor what she believes for every moment spent on her takes the eye of the ball. For example should we not be asking ourselves how we are going to keep the defense budget from being cut, our military infrastructure from being downsized or closed like Fort Monroe in 2011. BRAC threaten to close Oceana Air Station as well and Obama has not met the threshold of addressing defense spending other than to say he plans to cut combat systems. If he and Biden do not address with definitive ideas in this area, Virginia economic future could be threatened and if the other side takes full advantage of this dynamic, McCain could very well gain votes throughout Hampton Roads and Va Beach. Those people in Chesapeake who are so inclined to support Palin will regardless of the amount of attention we pay her; we should be focusing on those in the middle, the moderates, and independents with a message that Obama will be good for Virginia not just the country. If we want people to vote on the economy, we need to reassure these people that Obama will not cut defense spending otherwise it only helps McCain’s cause.
I think this is a statement about how this race has changed in the last few weeks. For a while, Republicans were looking at Obama, seeing what they did not like, and saying they would hold their nose while they pulled the lever. Now, Democrats are trying to get fired up by finding the negatives about the opposing candidate, as it appears that Barack Obama has been fading into the background. Momentum is entirely in favor of John McCain right now, and Vivian, I can tell you that you are among those that have aided him in that effort, as it became very clear that the more resistance that was put in place to Sarah Palin, the more the McCain/Palin ticket has benefited. Even Congressional races appear to be riding the coattails of the presidential race (though, I think it may be a miracle if Gilmore pulled out a win). For all the talk of this being the Democrats’ year, it appears that the arrogance following such statements may be catching up with them once again.
There are tons of blogs who are coming from that perspective. This post isn’t aimed at those folks.
Yeah, right. I guess posting a copy of a video is aiding him. I guess pointing out that Palin is not Hillary is aiding him.
In case neither of you got it, this post wasn’t aimed at you. I have met and continue to meet women who are thrilled to have the opportunity to vote for a woman. Well, I’m not one of them. And this post is my way of continuing the conversation that supporting a female candidate simply because she is female is not a good idea.
“I have met and continue to meet women who are thrilled to have the opportunity to vote for a woman. Well, I’m not one of them”
Come On Vivian,
So your support for Hillary had nothing, not even a little bit, to do with the opportunity to vote for a woman. I find that laughable and truly hard to believe. Response coming – “Rlewis, I vote on the issues, not because of race or gender, blah, blah, blah!”
If I had supported Obama in the primaries, you would have accused me of doing so because he was black. What I find laughable is that you are so predictable. Don’t project on me your own sense of why people support certain candidates.
That would be like me saying that just because you are white and male, you only support white guys.
Did y’all receive this email?
You’re receiving this message for two reasons.
First, Election Day is seven weeks from today — just 49 more days. That’s not a lot of time.
Second, you live right next door to a state that is once again shaping up to be a crucial general election battleground — Pennsylvania.
And Obama supporters from across the northeast are going to be crucial to putting us over the top in the Keystone State.
That’s why we’re organizing teams of supporters to come to Pennsylvania for Drive for Change weekend canvasses.
Sign up to join your fellow supporters and travel to Pennsylvania this weekend, or any weekend before the election.

Does this mean he’s leaving Virginia? There’s a link to Obama/Biden…
I’m so predictable! You Vivian are the definition of predictable. I can always tell what your opinion is based on the post headline alone. I think you are just upset that Hillary didn’t get the nod. How do know if I am a White Male? I could be a gay black female for all you know!
peter – that post makes no sense. Perhaps you left out some words? And the link goes nowhere.
rlewis – one of the many differences between you and I is that I’m willing to put my name to what I say while you are not. And as a blogger, who else’s opinion are you expecting me to give, other than my own? Hillary isn’t in this race and Sarah Palin is not a substitute for her, pure and simple.
Vivian,
You can say whatever you want. John McCain and Sara Palin are going to win the election. Palin is a lot better that that dufus that Obama has chosen as his VP. Palin is an average person who can identify with me. I am a democrat supporting McCain!
NoBama in 08!!!
And another pseudonymous poster. What’s with you guys? Don’t you have the strength of conviction to use your own names?

Try this one, sorry.
Whenever I hear about the wisdom of the American voter, I think about the halfwits populating this thread.
rlewis — If you had actually been paying attention, you would have noticed that Vivian had originally supported Richardson, who had far more experience than the Three Stooges who were left after the first round of primaries. Of the three, is it any wonder she supported Curly over Barry and Jo? At least Curly was married to someone with executive experience.
All those chanting Republicans on this thread, call in and tell them you want more talking points.
And try to find some reality also.
Exclamation point!
This is very strange. Not a single person wants to tackle what Obama/Biden will do to the regions economy regarding all the defense cuts they will have to impose. Heck its only 56 billion in Virginia annually.
Not a single one of you is worried that the region will suffer the 90’s all over when the military was downsized, defense spending cut to impact the defecit and of course later led to Newport News Shipbuilding being bought by Grumman.
Not a single person is worried about that or just cannot manage to address the issue. If its the latter, that speaks volumes. Lets stay on Sarah Palin, now thats productive.
